A nice new year topic for you. I want some good films to watch so give me some films that you think everybody HAS to see. You can put your favourite films but I want ones that we can get a good debate going over in the pub, doesn’t have to be your favourite, just a film that gives a bit more than your normal run of the mill Hollywood film. I’ll put ‘magnolia’ as my first one. I watched it other month and I couldn’t decide whether I thought it was good or bad & its annoyingly long, about 3hrs, but worth watching. One to deliberate over though, so that’s why I put it.
Watched the bone collector last night, was recommended to me by some loser, was alright but a very poor mans seven, and with a gay happy ending. Seven is also an absolute cracker.

Good work Rick, I think me and you were on about this in the pub over the Christmas period, it would be a good reference point for us lot. I'll wang one in; -Midnight Express Watched it the other night for about the 4th time, great film, strange how the main actor, Brad Davis, died of a drug over-dose a while back.

ive not seen it but Ive had it recommend to me to watch Blue Velvet starring Dennis Hopper & isobella Rosselenni!Hopper's on one in this little beut apparantly.
Vanilla Sky's pretty weird too! bit of a strange ending but its good, enough twists in it! Starring Tom cruise & Cameron Diaz - unfortunatley the ending gives the whole plot out so you have to keep watching it but its good! Tom Cruise is horribly disfigured & keeps imagining that his ex, Diaz is attacking him but everyone else sees it as the other way round!
LA Confidentials pretty good too. with Russel Crowe in a film I actually dont mind him in!

KEO!!!!!!!!!-I dint like vanilla sky that much-just thought it was all a bit pointless though the twists do liven it up a bit-and penelope cruz is a fitter.
Once Upon a time in America is a film everyone should see, if you can spare a shade under four hours. Its about Jewish gangs in new york and it took about 10 yrs to make. its probably better than the godfather in many ways. Also Spirited Away-it proves that animation doesnt have to be disney or pixar or shrek to be any good-its mental.

no ive nvr even heard of bronx tale-is it good? yeah spirited away is nice and moral, i think a lot of very dull circus children would be much happier if they had watched it as kids instead of putting up big tops and grooming the clowns. goodbye kuruschev has its little moments but ur right, its not to funny-it was made by citizens of the reich after all-and they only laugh at international capital being taken out of the hands of the jewish industrialists who have shamed the german nation. Ive never really seen that many funny foreign films-maybe im just not looking hard enough in the ruins of the bundesbank

"Psych out" is a quality film , a hippy classic starring Jack Nicholson that inspired the Who's "the seeker". Also see "the trip", which basically films Peter Fonda taking LSD.

Yeah i saw the Bone Collector last night. It was turd. Well predictable, and i spotted who the murderer was as soon as the first murder was comitted. Call me Columbo if you like. Ive had a right film fest this crimbo so seen some quite good ones. Ash Wednesday, The Passion of the Christ,Blue Velvet and Being John Malcovich are all quality, and The negiator is really good but predictable. So see those film fans, or be square.

Goodbye Putin is okay, maybe it loses something in translation. A very clever idea, but im not sure they pull it off as well as some non-garble speakers mite have done.
On another note, 'Chopper' is a belter of a film, and not in any way about everyone's favourite pony-tailed Fagins aficionado. Its funny and quite brutal, a good old fashioned violent romp as they used to say. Nice no brainer you could say.
Also, if you havent seen it, watch 'The Elephant Man', directed by David Lynch. Almost made the G-Man cry, did this tale of bravery, acceptance and compassion. Tony Hopkins is brilliant in this.
On an entirely different slant, we just had a 3 minitue silence in the library...isnt that a given in a library anyway? Well, not when you've got yammering international students all around you.

We just had a 3 minute silence at work. Naturally some bell end started a call at the start of it. t wat! chopper is a good Film but Benny J ruined it for me when he came up saying "that chopper, he's well hard!!"
Elephant man is a great film, John Hurt is superb.
If your wanting another violent film Gaz I recommend Romper Stomper. I warn you tho, its not very PC.

Well, i tried being PC , i really did Keesey, but it didnt work. Has anyone seen any Shane Meadows films? He's the best British director of the last 20 years. I havent seen 'Dead Mans Shoes' yet but its meant to be class. 'A Room for Romeo Brass' and '24-7' (Bob Hoskins is class, i shit ye not) are superb. Hugh Grant and his romcoms can sod off, these are realistic, sympathetic views of England. He does a lot of stuff with Paddy Considine, who plays Rob Gretton in 24 Hour Party People. A very good actor who plays a believable psycho in 'Romeo Brass', with one of the funniest scenes ever, trying to seduce a girl at his home. Magic

Bob Hoskins a gangster in '24 7'? Think ive seen it & its great if im right. You seen Withnail & I Barno? you'll like it! 2 Actors who dont get much work so just get absolutley wankered off anything they can get their hands on. (one example, meths!)

Oh no, Hoskins aint no gangster in '24/7', you're thinkin of 'The long good friday'. He's a boxing trainer in '24/7', who runs a boxing gym full of reprobates and domestically fucked up young blokes. Very very good, and quite sad I must say. It is in no way as predictable as you may think it sounds. Havent seen 'Withnail and I' mate. I always mean to see it when channel 4 pull their finger out, but never get round to it. I tell you whats good though...'True Romance'. Its written by Tarantino, although he doesnt direct it. Its a quirky little gem with Christian Slater in his most credible role. Its on par with Pulp Fiction probably, in terms of creativeness at the very least.

True Romance is absolutely ace-quite an all-star cast as well. A gary oldman film which is also a tasty brew is Leon, always a bit of a tear jerker for me. The other good thing about 24/7 is that guy who plays Les Battersby in corrie as the abusive husband-he's ace, as chilling as a homeboy in the hood y'all.
