"Turn it off Drakey...Turn it off!" Yeah, one of the later tracks on Tago Mago really did send me into another, scarier world. That was when i met the Voodoo Man though...and we all know what happened then!

That was the one that ruined my face up. Like water torture in an aural form. Thankfully we all came nicely down to a bit of 'Dry The Rain' afterwards, undoubtedly my bestest just-getting-down-from-highest-part-of-mushroom-trip song! It just makes so much more sense in those situations Cant wait for the Beta Band gig...it is going to be an absolute cracker

Hey Binks. Sonic Youth's, 'Daydream Nation', is a brilliant album. I'd well recommend purchasing it, along with the equally brilliant follow up record, 'Goo'. They sound absolutely nothing like My Bloody Valentine though- they're really experimental with their guitars and that's the only similarity. If you're really serious about checking out Throwing Muses then I'll just point out some facts. The best thing to get by the band is the,'In the Doghouse', compilation, which is absolutely fantastic- Muses at their peak. Check out my review at http://www.amazon.co.uk: www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000I2D1/ref=pd_sim_pm_dp_1/202-2075543-6979803Kristin Hersh's solo album, 'Hips and Makers', is also worth serious investigation. Beware- everyone else other than me seem to hate this band with a passion... In other news- I'm still alive and well. Still in Illinois with Spinders. Met up with Drakey, Akey and G. Dorms and spent a few days hanging out with the gang at Amazing Bird's place, (going to parties etc.). It's been a seriously funny trip all in all... especially with the Vacant Fox in tow. There are too many stories to relate that I can't put any down here. Bought a lot of records to listen to. Tom Waits' new album is a belter. Oh... and if you want a good book recommendation, then read Douglas Coupland's, 'Life After God'. It reflected the thoughts that go through my head every day so much that it was scary. Especially since everyone in the book feels lost... Drepressing and uplifting- it made me appreciate the finer things in life. I'm currently reading John Irving's, 'The World According to Garp', at the moment. Good book!

Well Joe lad, i finally capitulated and bought myself 'On the Beach' by Neil Young. I have to admit, it is possibly the best of the bunch. 'Walk On' and 'For the Turnstiles' sound better than on Decade as they are part of a full LP here. I also love 'Ambulance Blues' as well, undoubtedly one of the top 5 Neil Young tracks.
'Meat is Murder' by The Smiths is also occupying a prominent place in the CD changer. I can check Keesey's meaning when he says he thinks 'Barbarism...' is their best song.

ON THE BEACH Lyrics
went to the radio interview, but I ended up alone at the microphone, I went to the radio interview, but I ended up alone at the microphone. Now I'm livin' out here on the beach, but those seagulls are still out of reach. I went to the radio interview, but I ended up alone at the microphone.

'On the Beach', and, 'Meat is Murder'. Two albums that are definitely in my top 10 favourite list. Looks like you had yourself a good little shop Barnoloid. Recently I've been listening to the new Tom Waits L.P. on constant rotation. It's brilliant. Not many 55 year olds can use themselves as a human beatbox. What you get if you cross Nick Cave and Beefheart with an awful lot of cigarettes... This afternoon I've got Neutral Milk Hotel's, 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea', on my walkman. That's a classic, obscure gem. I've just got Laura into it- more people need to hear this record.

Yeah, that Tom Waits you played us on Saturday b4 headin to the Star & Garter sounded pretty cracking Joe lad. Quite impressed, was I. He is on similar lines to the good Captain, but obviously different in genre and style. I think if you appreciate Van Vliet then you'll probably 'get' Waits as well.

in honour of fridays upcoming extravaganza i purchased heroes to zeros at weekend, im enjoying it but i still think that my favourite album proper is the beta band which is generally considered worst of the three, but i think its class (if you ignore beta band rap) the rest of the album just go over you proper nicely.
anyway saw this on website posted by the administrator, but i'll leave it to manc posse to organise whats going on,
"If anyone in Manchester is up for some action afterwards, then the party continues at the Bierkeller in town in Piccadilly ... just jump on any bus heading into town (Picadilly).. Blowout night taking place... four amazing bands, with the headliners being The Longcut.. who are awesome If there's any people hanging around in Manchester on Saturday and looking for a night out, then I'd recommend the Akoustik Anarkhy night at the Piccadilly Gardens hotel .. a minutes walk from Piccadilly gardens bus stop... get involved ... late night parties both nights will be at Oak Road Withington.. gonna be a hell of a weekend"

I am also enjoying Hot Shots II and The Beta Band mr Binks, both crackers! I'd agree that Heroes To Zeroes isnt there best, but Assessment and the 3rd song are class. Is this some kind of after show Beta Band party? I'm well up for that if its the case! Cant do saturday tho, gotta be back in fax for a crunch Copley tie, lets hope I can keep up my feets of Saturday, an edge of the area half volley left foot win strike....get in

Yup, I also can't do Saturday night because I'm going to a 21st Birthday Party in Stockport. But I reckon that Beer Keller would be brilliant fun on Friday night after the gig, even if it isn't an aftershow party. Makes a good change from the usual haunts... if it isn't too expensive? Picked up my Beta ticket literally minutes ago.

Yeah, the Longcut have been recommended to me by members of the Nine black Alps. Supposed to be very talented. A singer that doubles up as a drummer apparently. Hope it's not like the Eagles though...actually they are supposed to be very Rapture like and very good musicians despite their tender years. We shud def. go. Never been to the Beer Keller either. It will be a new experience. Shud be a rite do.

Good call spindsy. I think it will make a nice change too. We cant have the yard team coming all the way over and not make a big nite of it. Nice to see new bands as well... In other news, i bought two shiny bits of recreational equipment yesterday.
I bought 'GP/Grievous Angel' by Gram Parsons. Two class albums from my favourite Country artist. Good shit, Geesey needs to stock that bad boy... Also, I bought a book called 'I Lucifer' by Glen Duncan on a whim...has anyone read it? I thought it looked like a good do.
