yeh do! sometimes you can drown yourself in complex Beefheart-esque stuff, then when you put a pop record on, its mightily refreshing!

Yeah. Sly and the Family Stone were amazing. If you like that best of Keesey then i recommend 'There's A Riot Goin On' by the same artist. It is incredible. Definitely in my top 15 albums ever. In fact i think you heard it when we were walking thru Mount Tabor on that wet Summer afternoon! I played it to that cow if ya remember

Glad to hear you're enjoying those records my spindly chum!
I bought myself two records this morning in a moment of madness, (I've got a holiday to pay for, and no money). But I'm really glad that I did 'cause they're two little gems! So I'm currently listening to:
Vic Chesnutt- Little. I discovered this guy earlier this summer, and now I've almost got his whole back catalogue. I just can't get enough. This is his first record, (produced by Michael Stipe). It's also one of his finest. There's a song on it called, 'Isadora Duncan', that sends shivers down my spine. It's really stripped down- just an acoustic guitar, a mouth organ, and a hammond organ. Vic's an alcoholic, and records most of his music whilst he's high as a kite. It's breathtaking stuff.
Elliott Smith- From a Basement on the Hill. What else can I say? I'm not jumping on the bandwagon because the guy's dead, (I got into his music back in 1998). But I have the view that Elliott Smith is miles, miles better than Nick Drake. He's the best male songwriter of the last 10 years, (along with Stuart Murdoch, and the afformented Vic Chesnutt). This is the album he was working on until he stabbed himself in the heart last October. It's nowhere near his best record, but it's still my contender for the best album of the year. Nothing comes close, except Morrissey's, 'You Are the Quarry', perhaps?

Ive also been busy....
Can-Anthology Yes it's a best of of sorts but Can albums don't come cheap, and this gives me an overlook at stuff outside Tago Mago. One of the best bands ever in my opinion, nothing like them at all.
Jesus And Mary Chain-Psychocandy Grown on me in the past few weeks, as I bought it quite a while back.

Have a look next time your in manc sir, Fopp usually has a deal or two on stuff like the mary chain. I have been trying to buy some Cure, but all their studio albums are about £15 in manchester! I dont know why that is??? I dont really want to buy a best of, but it seems my hand is being forced. If i wanted to get all the albums with their best stuff on it'd cost an arm and a couple of legs.

Yeah, 'Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' by Spiritualized is an absolute winner of an LP. Soothing to the soul and the ears. Can imagine if i had a big break up with a girl this album would be with me at all times. I should really get into their older stuff as well...
